Widgets For Link Building

Have you seen the widgets that you can use to leverage your online marketing efforts? What is great about having a widget is you can put your link inside a widget that goes back to you.

You can put everything about your product or service inside this widget and have it displayed on their own website or desktop. Think of it as a mobile app on your iPhone or Android. When the user wants to use it they tap with their finger (desktop click on the widget), your widgdet now shows what you have to offer. When they click the specific image, this will take them to the relevant page of the offer or product.

Examples of Widgets
An example of this is say you sell epoxy paint, you can create your widget into an image like gallery of the product that the user can scroll thru, and once clicked on this will hyperlink them to the product page. Suppose you provide a service like Seattle Construction Attorney that specializes in the mind boggling maze in construction contracts. Your widget will show certain elements of a contract that has pitfalls, and how you have the solutions to assist them. Or maybe you sell carpets in Redmond or install ceramic tile Woodinville. The widget can be applied to any industry.

An easy way of creating a widget is to submit your video to Vimeo – as they provide a link back to you when someone embeds the video on their website. More on this in the future articles.

Downside of Widgets
The downside to widgets is that it does take time to plan and create the widget. Usually this is done in flash or javascript. So you may:

  • Time Consuming
  • Not have the Experts to Create Flash/Javascript application

In summary don’t let the negative stop you from increasing your brand. Using widgets is a great idea and has value for pure link building. But the other side of the coin of SEO is the branding and viral marketing. This can be utilized on twitter/facebook, etc… You can get direct word of mouth depending on how much your efforts are in the social media. Bottom line is getting under as many eye balls as possible. Thinking outside the box to implement your widget is key, and distributing thru SpinletsLab, Widgetbox, YahooWidgets, SpringWidgets to increase your traffic is a great idea.
